Single-phase delivers power on one active conductor. Three-phase delivers it across three, so it can supply much more power and runs heavy equipment more smoothly and efficiently.

Ducted or large air conditioning that draws more than a single phase comfortably handles.
Fast EV charging at 11kW or more.
Larger solar and battery systems with inverters above the single-phase limit.

How to tell what you have

The easiest way is to look at your main switch in the switchboard. A single wide main switch usually means single-phase, while three linked poles suggests three-phase. We can confirm it for you.

Upgrading

Going from single to three-phase involves an application to your network provider and work at the switchboard and supply point. The cost depends on your connection and how far the supply has to run. We will assess it and handle the process for you.
